Bloom Science is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Senior Research Associate to join our Research & Development team. The successful candidate will play a key role in designing, executing, and analyzing experiments to support our therapeutic programs. This individual will demonstrate a high degree of initiative, independent problem-solving, and scientific curiosity, along with the flexibility to contribute across diverse projects in a dynamic startup.

What You Will Do

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Design and perform molecular cloning experiments (e.g., plasmid construction, transformation, colony screening, PCR, qPCR)
  • Conduct microbial culture, strain engineering, and maintenance of bacterial stocks
  • Perform NGS library preparation and sequencing with minION device
  • Develop and execute biochemical and cell-based assays
  • Analyze, interpret, and present experimental data to internal teams
  • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records (ELN)
  • Assist in optimizing workflows and troubleshooting protocols
  • Collaborate across disciplines with research scientists and external partners

Qualifications:

  • BSc or MSc in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or related field
  • 3+ years of hands-on lab experience in academic or industry settings
  • Proficiency in cloning methods (Gibson, PCR, transformations, etc.)
  • Experience culturing and working with bacteria (anaerobic or probiotic strains is a plus)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Computational biology experience (Running bioinformatic software and programming with python or R)
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture, such as cell lines, primary cells or iPSCs
  • Experience with electrophysiology or multielectrode arrays
  • Familiarity with bioreactor systems or in vitro models
  • Experience working in an early-stage biotech or startup environment
  • Flexible, proactive, team-oriented mindset
  • Agility and adaptability to shift priorities and embrace evolving goals as we mature and grow

The estimated base salary range for this role based in the United States of America is $65,000-$95,000. Compensation decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to an individual’s qualifications, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Should the level of the role change during the hiring process, the applicable salary range may be updated accordingly. Additionally, all employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s discretionary bonus plan, and eligible roles may receive equity as part of the compensation package.
