The Research Assistant supports the day-to-day activities of large cohort studies within the Medical Surgical ICU. This includes recruiting participants, assisting with data collection, managing documentation, and ensuring compliance with study protocols. The role is essential to support research goals and ensure smooth execution of study tasks under the direction of the Research Team Lead and Principal Investigator. This is an in-person role involving direct patient interaction.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Data Collection and Entry

• Collect data from patient EMR.
• Ensure completeness and accuracy of all CRFs and source documentation
• Assist in maintaining regulatory binders and study logs
• Track patient progress, assessments and follow-up timelines

Participant recruitment and communication: -

• Review and screen new patient admissions
• Approach and recruit eligible participants in hospital and/or clinic settings
• Provide clear information about study purposes and obtain informed consent
• Document screening and recruitment

Administrative and Research Support:

• Assist in preparing submissions to REB (e.g., amendments, renewals),
• Help track study approvals and ensure documents are up to date
• Communicate regularly with the study team, including Principle Investigators, and clinic staff
• Assist with scheduling study meetings, taking minutes, and sharing updates
• Schedule lab collections, imaging

Qualifications

• Undergraduate Degree required
• 6-12 months of previous experience in clinical research setting or working on clinical research studies preferred;
• experience recruiting participants, conducting surveys and interviews and working on various aspects of clinical research studies in a hospital setting while applying the principles of GCP.
• Certification in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), TCPS2, CCRP and/or ACRP preferred.
• Experience with REDCap database, Microsoft Office, and Medical
• Demonstrated excellent organizational skills, time management skills and communication skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to the principles of patient and family centred care
• Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to patient and staff safety at LHSC
• Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis
