Position Summary: Sunstar Americas, Inc., a leader in the oral care industry and the manufacturer and distributor of the GUM Brands, seeks an experienced R&D Research to join our team of professionals located in the Schaumburg area.
The responsibilities of R&D Researcher fall into two categories. One is to explore new materials/components/technologies for innovative product development. The other one is to explore, establish and validate, and implement test methods for evaluating the efficacy, safety, and physical property of prototype products and existing products in the market as well as new materials. These functions include design verification and validation of the developed products through in vitro test, bench test, and clinical study.
R&D Researcher works closely with the Product Engineering unit and Marketing unit, which designs and develops the products, and suggests the evaluation plan, provides them with material information and the product efficacy and safety information. R&D Researcher also collaborate with KOLs and experts in the dental/medical field, which includes academia, physicians, dentists, dental hygienists, consultants, and industry, to plan, conduct, and manage in vitro test, bench test, and clinical study.
Essential Job Functions: - Explore new materials and technologies that potentially enable to bring about technological innovation to product development that meets the company's midterm plan strategic framework.
- Based on the knowledge of the internal and external factors such as competitive environment, consumers, trends in dentistry and medicine, industrial standards, and regulatory, generate a new technical/product idea, and evaluate the feasibility of the technology, and prove the hypothesis through in vitro and bench tests.
- Investigate project/product ideas that include new technologies, their potential benefit, applicable products, to cross-functional team that is involved in the new product development.
- Work with outside institutes that implement clinical studies for the products and arrange collaboration projects.
- Develop new testing methodologies for evaluating the efficacy, safety, and physical property of the products.
- Provide the new product development team and the sales unit with information on the efficacy, safety, and physical property of the products.
- Contribute R&D expertise in cross-functional project teams.
- 10% ~ 20% domestic or international travel may be required.
- Due to the time difference, a few after-hours teleconferences may be needed with international suppliers and project team members (approx. once a month, depending on the project).
Education - Required Bachelors
- Master of Science or Engineering a plus
Knowledge/Experience - 1+ years of full-time R&D or new product development engineering experience.
- Familiar with one of in vitro biological study, in vitro microbial study, or clinical study.
- Biological statistics

The pay range for this position of R&D Researcher is $79,902-119,853. However, base pay offered may vary depending on skills, experience, job-related knowledge and location. This position is also eligible for an annual bonus as part of total compensation.
