Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and senior Project Controls Manager to join a high-performing team on a major energy construction project near Edmonton, Alberta. This senior role plays a pivotal part in driving the successful delivery of large-scale infrastructure by overseeing project controls and ensuring alignment across planning, cost, and execution functions.
This is a field-based position requiring effectively driven leadership, a clear understanding of project control frameworks, and the ability to communicate efficiently across all levels of the organization, from field teams to executive stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the implementation of project controls best practices, procedures, and work instructions across all phases of execution.
  • Oversee and guide a multidisciplinary project controls team, promoting collaboration, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Develop and maintain critical path schedules, ensuring alignment with construction and commissioning milestones.
  • Monitor and manage project budgets and expenditures to meet financial targets.
  • Provide clear, timely reporting to both project leadership and corporate stakeholders—upward, downward, and across functions.
  • Identify cost and schedule risks early, proposing proactive mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with internal standards and external regulatory requirements.
  • Support project leadership in performance optimization, issue resolution, and decision-making.
  • Foster team development through mentoring and day-to-day leadership.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 10–20 years of progressive experience in project controls, ideally in large-scale Oil & Gas, petrochemical, or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Proven track record leading project controls teams on mega projects ($500M+).
  • Strong working knowledge of Primavera P6, cost control tools, and project reporting systems.
  • Confident in navigating complex team dynamics and communicating clearly across stakeholders, contractors, and client representatives.
  • Deep understanding of project lifecycle from pre-FEED through to commissioning.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a field-based, fast-paced construction environment.
  • Comfortable working 40–50 hour work weeks with occasional overtime.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to commute to site daily.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
