Personal Support Worker

Complex Continuing Care and Assisted Living Departments

Temporary and Permanent, Part Time, Casual

The Renfrew Victoria Hospital (RVH) is a 55-bed, fully accredited facility located just 45 minutes west of Ottawa, serving a catchment area of over 60,000. Part of the Renfrew and Area Health Village, RVH provides medical, surgical and complex continuing care as well as extensive ambulatory care with over 30,000 emergency and clinic visits per year.

Come join us! As a result of our internal movements at RVH, we are hiring Temporary and Permanent, Part-Time Registered Nurses with our Medical/Surgical Department.

Pay Grid: $27.43 - $28.68/hour

The Registered Nurse bases practice on nursing science and on content relevant to nursing form other sciences and the humanities. The Registered Nurse continues to learn throughout his/her professional life.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with ambulating, mobilization, proper positioning and maintaining body alignment and/or posture as required.
  • Assisting with mechanical and physical lifts and/or transfers.
  • Observing and reporting changes in the patient’s condition.
  • Assisting with bed baths and routine personal hygiene needs, including toileting, oral hygiene, hair care, shaving, dressing, etc.
  • Passes meal trays/nourishments to patients and returns trays to trolley.

  • Feed/assist patients as required.
  • Assisting with range of motion exercises and other rehabilitative measures as directed by a professional.
  • Practice universal precautions and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Provide emotional and social support services to patients and their families.
  • Assisting with oxygen therapy, medications, hot and cold application/compresses as directed by a physician or Nursing Care Plan.
  • Takes and records patient weight and height and relays this information to the RN or RPN.
  • Changing bed linens, towels, and performing laundry related tasks.
  • Calming and restraining restless patients, maintaining safety devices as ordered, as per Least Restraint Policy.
  • Providing one-on-one observation and care of designated patients.
  • Assists Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse with dressing changes.
  • Administers enemas to patients on instruction from the RN/RPN.
  • Assists with the housekeeping of patient units and the care of patient’s personal effects, such as glasses, prosthesis, braces, dentures, hearing aids.

Qualifications:

  • Recent experience with personal care of geriatric patients.
  • Personal Support Worker Certificate
  • GPA and/or P.I.E.C.E.S Certification an asset
  • Current Certification in C.P.R. at Basic Rescuer Level (or Equivalent).
  • Ability to work and provide care within a team environment according to Care Plan.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to perform duties within the physical demands of work area (lifting & mobilization of patients).
  • Portering duties as required.
  • Contingent upon valid Vulnerable Sector Reference Check as per hospital policy.
  • Demonstrates effective use of a computer for EHR documentation purposes
