Position: Mechanical Design Engineer / Designer – Automation Equipment

Location: Toronto, ON

Contract Type: Contract/CTH (Open to conversion if good fit)

Location: 100 % onsite

About the Role

We’re looking for multiple Mechanical Design Engineers / Designers to support the design and development of advanced automated equipment used across next-generation manufacturing programs — including energy, cell, and vehicle systems.

You’ll be joining a fast-paced engineering team focused on automation design, machine development, and mechanical innovation , helping to bring conceptual ideas into reality. What You’ll Do

• Design, model, and detail mechanical assemblies and sub-assemblies using SolidWorks and AutoCAD (95% of daily work).
• Create 3D CAD models, detailed manufacturing drawings , and BOMs using GD&T and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5).
• Develop and integrate commercial mechanical components (sensors, servos, pneumatic actuators, bearings, linear actuators, etc.).
• Collaborate closely with controls and electrical teams to ensure complete system integration.
• Support fabrication, assembly, and production teams by troubleshooting and implementing design improvements.
• Drive optimization of machine performance, manufacturability, and reliability.
• Participate in design reviews, prototype builds, and new equipment commissioning.

What You’ll Bring

• 2–10+ years of experience in mechanical design or machine design (all experience levels welcome).
• Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD (required).
• Hands-on experience designing high-speed automation machinery or custom mechanical equipment .
• Proven ability to design mechanical systems from concept to release — not just updates or conversions.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, actuators, bearings, servos , and component selection.
• Solid understanding of mechanical fundamentals : dynamics, tolerancing, material selection, and fabrication methods.
• Post-secondary degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.

(A design portfolio is appreciated but not required.)
