Lead Sessional Instructional Assistant
Course Title: HIS280Y1Y, L5101 History of China
Course description : A critical history of the place we today call China from prehistoric times to the 21st century, tracing shifting borders, identities, governments, and cultures while challenging any singular definition of "China."
Dates of Appointment: September 1, 2025 – April 30, 2026
Minimum qualifications: Minimum MA in History or related discipline; Previous Head Instructional Assistant experience in this or a similar course. Experience supervising TAs. Knowledge of policies and procedures regarding student issues. Excellent knowledge of the subject matter.
Preferred qualifications: teaching experience in this or a similar course is preferred. Previous experience or training with Quercus is an asset.
Duties:
Arranging and assigning tutorial hours. Liaising with individual TAs and course instructor/supervisor over any pedagogical, procedural and student issues arising during the session. Preparing and maintaining course materials. Marking essays/exams submitted on petition.
Estimated course enrolment : 260
Estimated hours per position : Approximately 100 hours
Lecture: Wednesdays 17:00-19:00
Tutorials : Tuesdays 14:00-15:00, 15:00-16:00, 16:00-17:00, 19:00-20:00; Wednesdays 11:00-12:00, 12:00-13:00, 13:00-14:00, 14:00-15:00, 16:00-17:00, 17:00-18:00, 18:00-19:00, 19:00-20:00
Rate of Pay: $54.27 per hour plus 4% vacation pay
