BARGAINING UNIT: CUPE

JOB TYPE: Permanent full-time

SCHEDULE: Day, Night, Weekend, Rotation, 8 and 12-hour shifts. Work schedule may be changed to meet operational needs.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Bilingual essential

JOB SUMMARY:

The incumbent performs security related duties and assist nursing and other health care professional staff in providing basic physical and psychiatric care to forensic psychiatric patients. He will be required to participate in the basic physical and psychiatric care of the patients in accordance with the standards and policies of the forensic psychiatry units. He will also supervise and control patients; monitor their movements and activities and ensure their comfort and safety; perform head counts and patrols inside and outside the facility; and perform security checks and searches of the units, physical facilities, patients, visitors and personal effects, under the supervision of a registered nurse or other health care professional.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Secondary School Diploma plus an additional Correctional Techniques Program of over one year and up to two years or equivalent;
• Current Basic Life Support certification (BSL);
• Advanced Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training (CPI) course or commitment to take this training within the set timeframe;
• Prevention and Management of Suicidal Behaviour course or a commitment to take this training within the set timeframe;
• Good judgement and organizational skills.

• Physical ability to perform the assigned work;
• Good work history (performance and attendance);
• Adherence to professional ethical principles, the Network's management philosophy, and organizational values;
• Compliance with the rules of confidentiality set by Vitalité Health Network.
