Executive Director Opportunity

Following a nine-year tenure for the previous Executive Director, GLAD is seeking a new leader to guide the organization through a critical moment in its history. The ED will join a financially stable organization with a multigenerational staff, active fundraising, and plans for growth. An Interim Executive Director is supporting the transition to ensure a smooth leadership change.

GLAD has built a strong national presence and seeks a trailblazing ED to lead and expand capacity, resources, and impact, with a staff of 35+ and a Legal Team of highly regarded LGBTQ+ and human rights litigators. The ED will be GLADs chief ambassador, fundraiser, and spokesperson, partnering with movement partners, funders, and key stakeholders to advance GLADs mission and values.

Reporting to a Board, the ED will cultivate an inclusive culture, deepen coalitions, secure funding, and sustain organizational growth. The ED will help advance GLADs strategic priorities, including expanding national impact, growing legal capacity, fostering an equitable workplace, and enhancing hybrid collaboration.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategy & Leadership: Engage staff and Board to advance GLADs vision; create short- and long-term plans; pursue strategic partnerships; promote diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and antiracism; serve as an external leader in the national movement.
  • Funding & Resource Development: Lead major gifts fundraising; diversify revenue; maintain relationships with current funders and cultivate new donors.
  • Organizational & Team Management: Strengthen an equitable culture for 35+ employees and interns; oversee SMT leadership; support staff development and performance management; build organizational infrastructure for growth.
  • Community Engagement & Strategic Alliances: Identify strategic alliances; tell GLADs story; deepen collaborations with community leaders, partner organizations, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • External Relations & Presence: Serve as principal spokesperson; oversee communications and donor messaging; expand GLADs national presence.
  • Financial & Operational Management: Ensure fiscal health; prepare annual budgets; apply nonprofit best practices; optimize operations for efficiency.

Location, Compensation, and Benefits

GLADs office is in Downtown Boston with a hybrid schedule. Boston-based candidates are preferred, but candidates outside the Northeast may apply. Regular presence in GLADs Boston offices and occasional travel to other locations are required. Salary range is anticipated to be $215K$250K, with comprehensive benefits including three weeks of paid vacation, health/dental coverage for individuals, a 401(k) with employer contribution, and disability insurance. Final salary will reflect equity and experience.
