As Director, Policy and Strategic Planning, you will play a pivotal role in shaping housing policy across the territory. You’ll lead strategic initiatives, support executive decision-making, and navigate the complex landscape of Cabinet approvals, ministerial priorities, and intergovernmental collaboration. NHC is an agency of the Government of Nunavut serving one of the fastest-growing and youngest populations in Canada. Our mandate is to create, coordinate, and administer housing programs that provide fair access to affordable housing options. Through initiatives like the Nunavut 3000 Strategy (), we are working with partners to deliver 3,000 new housing units by 2030.

About the Job

  • Reporting to the VP Finance and Corporate Services, the Director, Policy and Strategic Planning will lead the development and review of legislation, policy, and strategic planning documentation.
  • The Director provides leadership in department-wide strategic planning, including the collection, recording and analysis of information on housing and is responsible for coordinating information for the Minister, President and CEO, and Board of Directors to represent the Corporation.
  • Provide expert advice to the Minister, President & CEO, and Board of Directors.
  • Align operational realities with executive priorities and government mandates.
  • Represent NHC in high-level discussions and intergovernmental forums.
  • Support crisis management and reputation stewardship for the Corporation.
  • Collaborate across the executive team to ensure strategic coherence and shared leadership.

What You Bring

  • Undergraduate degree in Public or Business Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years of experience in policy development, strategic planning, communications, and crisis management.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive managerial experience.
  • Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit is considered a strong asset.
  • Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages (Inuktut, English, French) is an asset.
