Job Description

Director of Capital Campaign

Halifax, NS

Venor is proud to partner with Phoenix on their search for a Director of Capital Campaign to join

their team in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

For more than 35 years, Phoenix has been dedicated to supporting youth and their families

through a range of programs and services designed to break cycles of homelessness and help

young people thrive. Rooted in compassion, respect, and social justice, Phoenix provides vital

housing, education, and employment support to youth in Halifax and beyond.

This is a four-year term position with the potential for extension, focused on leading the Capital

Campaign for Phoenix’s Multi-Service Housing Centre (MSHC) Project , a transformative

initiative that will strengthen Phoenix’s impact in the community for generations to come.

What You’ll Be Doing

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Capital Campaign will lead and manage all

fundraising efforts in support of the MSHC Project. As a member of Phoenix’s Executive Team,

this role plays a pivotal part in shaping organizational strategy, policy, and financial planning.

This position is dedicated exclusively to leading the capital campaign and operates

independently from Phoenix’s ongoing annual fundraising activities that support the agency’s

general operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and supporting the Campaign Collective, a group of senior volunteers assisting

in fundraising efforts for the MSHC.

  • Building and managing meaningful relationships with donors, volunteers, community

partners, and government officials.

  • Developing, implementing, and executing a comprehensive Capital Campaign strategy

aligned with Phoenix’s mission and vision.

  • Collaborating with senior leaders; including the Senior Director of Finance, Director of

Organizational Development and Director of Development, to ensure the project stays

on time, on budget, and mission-aligned.

  • Participating as a member of the MSHC Program Leadership Team to support planning,

design, and construction phases while managing quality, cost, and timelines.

  • Engaging with and reporting to the Project Steering Committee, which includes members

of Phoenix’s Board of Directors and the Phoenix Charitable Foundation.

  • Providing leadership and support to build an internal culture of philanthropy across

Phoenix programs and staff.

  • Overseeing administrative and financial accountability for campaign activities, including

preparing reports, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with CRA regulations.

  • Supervising and developing team members, including an Administrative Assistant and

future fundraising and communications staff.

  • Representing Phoenix in the community, participating in events, and deepening

relationships with partners and supporters.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is a strategic, relationship-driven leader with a proven record in major gift

fundraising, campaign management, and community engagement.

Qualifications Include

  • Undergraduate degree in philanthropy, social sciences, business, or related field (CFRE

designation considered an asset).

  • Minimum of five years in fund development or revenue generation, including at least

three years in a leadership capacity.

  • Ability to commit Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., with flexibility and evening work

required to support campaign activities.

  • Demonstrated success in major gift fundraising and relationship cultivation.
  • Experience managing complex budgets, financial reports, and fundraising operations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire collaboration

and accountability.

  • Knowledge of fundraising legislation, CRA compliance, and donor database systems

(Raiser’s Edge considered an asset).

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of issues related to homelessness, youth development, and social justice is

highly valued.

total rewards package, including:

  • Monthly staff engagement events
