Job Description

Overview The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia is unique in the size and scope of its work. It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation's capital. On the local side, AUSAs assigned to the Superior Court Division prosecute cases ranging from misdemeanors to homicides. On the federal side, AUSAs assigned to the Criminal Division prosecute federal crimes. The Civil Division defends the United States in civil suits brought in the District of Columbia. Responsibilities Use a wide range of investigative methods to uncover criminal violations; recognize, seize and preserve evidence; recruit cooperating witnesses/defendants and other sources to generate and advance criminal investigations; testify in local and federal courts and before local and federal grand juries; conduct or lead complex investigations in areas such as fraud, bribery and public corruption, national security related offenses, cybercrimes, money laundering, violent crimes and sexual assault. Independently and skillfully draft search warrants and other complex written products in a manner that does not require significant revision; work as a key member of prosecution and trial teams to identify and conduct necessary investigative steps to secure convictions for criminal offenses. Qualifications Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position, typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized Experience is defined as the following: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal Service performing duties such as using investigative methods to uncover criminal violations; recognizing, seizing and preserving evidence; recruiting witnesses; testifying in courts; and conducting complex investigations in fraud, bribery and public corruption, national security related offenses, cybercrimes, money laundering, violent crimes and sexual assault. ICTAP/CTAP Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP) - The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
