Job Description

The Broadway Subway Project Corporation (BSPC) is an Acciona-Ghella general partnership to deliver a 5.7 km extension of the Millennium Line, from VCC-Clark Station to Broadway and Arbutus. Once complete, it will provide fast, frequent and convenient service to B.C.’s second largest jobs center, world-class health services, an emerging innovation and research hub, and growing residential communities.

The Civil Engineer BIM Coordinator is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and management of Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes during the design and construction phases of the project. This role requires close collaboration with multidisciplinary stakeholders to ensure the effective use of BIM tools and methodologies, aiming to enhance project delivery, improve accuracy, and streamline construction coordination.

The BIM Coordinator plays a key role in optimizing design, construction, and operational efficiencies through the application of advanced BIM technologies.

Key responsibilities include the production and coordination of BIM models that integrate both 3D and 2D visualizations, combining geometry and data provided by design and construction teams. This is carried out in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment that demands high levels of coordination and precision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • BIM Management: Support the BIM Manager with the implementation of BIM processes, ensuring adherence to standards, guidelines, and protocols throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Act as the primary liaison between architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure effective BIM integration across all teams.
  • Software Management: Support the BIM Manager to manage and maintain BIM software and systems (e.g., Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, etc.) for project coordination, and assist team members with software troubleshooting and training.
  • Model Coordination: Review, manage, and coordinate BIM models from the point of view of a civil engineer to ensure consistency, accuracy, and clash detection across disciplines (architectural, structural, MEP).
  • Quality Control: Monitor the quality and integrity of BIM models, identifying and resolving issues related to data interoperability, model updates, and project timelines.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Produce and maintain BIM-related documentation, including model versioning, project reports, and implementation schedules.
  • Training and Support: Provide training and technical support to team members, ensuring the use of best practices for BIM and related tools.
  • Project Management: Collaborate with project managers to ensure BIM is integrated into project workflows and schedules. Assist in setting project milestones, timelines, and deliverables
  • Continuous Improvement: Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in BIM technologies applies to civil engineering, and propose improvements to existing processes.

Experience/Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Architect or Civil Engineer working with BIM in construction, architecture, or engineering environments.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in BIM software, including Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, and other related tools. Experience with project management software and collaboration tools (e.g., BIM 360).
  • Certifications: BIM-related certifications (e.g., Autodesk Certified Professional) are an asset.
  • Knowledge: Strong understanding of BIM standards, protocols, and workflows, along with knowledge of building design, construction processes, and technical standards.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, propose solutions, and manage conflicts between disciplines.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
