Working for the Department

The Rehabilitation Robotics Lab (RRL) in the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine is dedicated to improving quality of life through advanced robotics and technology. Our research spans wheelchair biomechanics, spinal structure assessment, assistive robotics, telerehabilitation, and virtual reality in rehabilitation medicine. We emphasize the use of simulation and extended reality (XR) technologies to study human biomechanics. In partnership with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry and the SMART Network, RRL boasts state-of-the-art equipment including motion capture systems, immersive VR, and a six-degrees-of-freedom robotic platform for back pain research. The lab serves as a collaborative hub for researchers and trainees from various disciplines.

Position

This position will provide administrative and research support to the Rehab Robotics Lab (RRL) Lab and Project Coordinator. This role includes project coordination and support, social media and website content development, coordinating meetings and events, and liaising with patients and study participants.

Duties

  • Communication - manages lab website, responds to external communications, creates visuals for presentations and events
  • Documentation - creates content for website, social media accounts, prepares and updates project and lab communications such as rack cards, project one-pagers
  • Administration - supports Lab & Project Coordinator with routine organization and administrative tasks, including travel arrangements, event planning and execution, etc.
  • Research Activities - supports ongoing research projects, including updating ethics applications, supporting participant recruitment for research studies, drafting and editing funding proposals, drafting and editing scientific reports or papers for publication, and supports undergraduate and graduate students with their research projects as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills; strong attention to detail required
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills including strong ability to demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and diplomacy
  • Excellent spelling, grammar, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of health care industry and terminology an asset
  • High tolerance for ambiguity; adaptable to a changing environment
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of creating equitable, diverse, and inclusive practices
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Able to perform searches on databases, websites, etc. to support project activities; experience with literature reviews
  • Adaptable, agile and technologically savvy; advanced capability with MS Office suite, Google Applications and PeopleSoft systems, data management software (REDCap)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while managing competing priorities
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work effectively
  • Ability to network and build strong professional relationships
  • Experience in an academic administrative role or research environment
  • Excellent knowledge translation skills, including social media, and the ability to act creatively with communication

  • University degree in science, health care, public health, or related field; maybe ongoing education
  • Openness to new experiences an asset
  • Friendly and outgoing personality an asset
  • Experience with ethics submissions, manuscript editing, and annual reports or related academic writing
  • Experience with mentoring and training junior team members and/ or students
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to lead small groups
  • Experience with, or understanding of, rural healthcare services
  • Experience working with the disabled community
